The 14thAnnual Wild Game Cook Out to benefit the Dream Day Foundation took place on Saturday, February 8 in and around Sandy’s Daiquiris on Highway 190 West in Erwinville. With fur, feathers, fins and shells mostly discarded, 17 contestants/teams prepared 27 game and fish dishes that fed hundreds. And once again the Floyd and Jerry Edwards team coordinated the popular cookout.
The three top dishes judged best included:
First Place: Jacked Up Oysters by Team Murray led by Michael Edwards of Erwinville.
Second Place: Bacon Wrapped Red Snapper, Goose, Speckled trout Ka-Bobs by Randy Sexton of Plaquemine
Third Place: Shrimp and Crab Doucet by Cindi Doucet of New Roads. This sauce served as topping for fried catfish.
H&E Equipment and NRG were the lead sponsors for the event. Others corporate and community sponsors included Atlas Hose & Gasket, Bayou State Rabbit Hunters Federation, Bowie Outfitters, C&F Fabricators, Ewing’s of New Roads, Hesselbein Tire, Marchand Construction, Quality Bolt, Randy Sexton, Richard and Patricia Smith, Ryerson-Chris Mire, Universal Steel, Sandy’s Daiquiris, Southwest Stainless, T&T Gas & Supply, and T. Barry Wilkinson.
Other unique dishes included Deer Sliders with Cole Slaw, Nutria Sauce Piquant, Frog Sauce Piquant, Smoked Wild Hog, and Deer, Andouie, Tasso, Opossum Pastalaya.
A wild live auction capped off the evening with some items auctioned off more than once prompted by the generosity of the bidders. The most competitive bidding covered cypress tables, Yeti coolers, crawfish boilers, and hunting and fishing trips.
The Falcons, a Maringouin-based band led by vocalist, Donald Militello, provided live music.
